DATING from the late 17th century, Three Horseshoes was an alehouse until 1953.

Enford, Wiltshire

It is now a village house with a converted beer cellar and separate cottage, seven bedrooms, four reception rooms and four bathrooms.
It also benefits from a garden, double garage with stable and off-street parking.

Days gone by: In the book Enford Days by Fred Phillimore he tells of a time when the Three Horseshoes offered a pint of beer, a clay pipe and a faggot for six old pence (2.5p), and how a neighbour had his cottage built without a gable window so his family couldn’t see him going for a drink.

Enford: It has a pub and church and array of clubs.

The nearest village shop is three miles away in Upavon.

Price: £695,000 through Knight Frank (knightfrank.co.uk; 01488 682 726).
