Director, Chris Thompson, said:
"Eco-schemes involve very lengthy planning timeframes. If something is a little controversial – such as wind turbine – you will need strong support from the council. Fortunately we had that.
"In London and Manchester each building must by law have at least 30 per cent renewable energy sources but there is no such requirement in Leeds as yet."
The company's Greenhouse project, a conversion of a 1930s Art Deco building in the Beeston Hill area, features a majestic wind turbine.
The development also uses ground-source heat pump technology, a rooftop solar thermal system and super-insulation to reduce CO2 emissions and energy bills.
Other eco features include free umbrellas to encourage walking, electric car-sharing and bicycles.
The first phase of Citu's 90 apartments sold fast – many to investors.
The next phase is also selling well with prices from £59,000. The last phase is reserved for first-time locals. It will has 172 apartments.
