Capital builder brings special touch to Glasgow

New houses on the old Williamwood High School site
Posted: 2008/10/05
THIS weekend marks an important milestone in the story of one of Scotland's most successful housebuilders, Edinburghbased Applecross.
Leading lights in the residential market in and around the Capital, their name has become synonymous with upmarket luxury.
Now Applecross are broadening their horizons into the Glasgow area.
Today the company officially opens the door to the showhome at their debut venture in the west, Williamwood on Glasgow's south side, a location that previously housed Williamwood High School.
What makes this so significant is the fact Applecross are on course to make even greater inroads into the Glasgow housing market.
They have been given the go-ahead to develop the former BBC Scotland headquarters at Queen Margaret Drive in the west end of the city where construction is underway to create 189 homes . . . 186 apartments and three townhouses.
At Williamwood Applecross is creating 41 homes with the mix targeted at a broad range of buyers, from growing families to city professionals and downsizers.
The selection includes 14 fivebedroom terraced townhouses, nine four-bedroom semi-detached townhouses and 18 two and threebedroom apartments.
But the builders are confident families will be very much to the fore of those signing up to buy.
The development, Applecross is quick to point out, is within the catchment area of the city's new £27million Williamwood High School.
Boosting the area's family appeal even more is the fact that nearby attractions include Rouken Glen Park and Linn Park.
Golfers will note that both Williamwood and Cathcart Castle Golf Courses are nearby.
Of course, the number one attraction at this landmark project is the homes. While Applecross may be a new name in the Glasgow area, the firm has built up an impressive reputation since its inception in 1979 for producing cleverly designed, well-specified properties.
This pattern is set to continue in Glasgow.
The townhouses at Williamwood are clearly designed for families with accommodation spanning three levels and providing around 2,000 sq ft of total living space.
In the four-bedroom version the main living space is on the ground floor. There is a mezzanine level, an area perfect for use as a home office, playroom or TV area.
Both the master bedroom and second bedroom are on the first floor, and both have ensuite facilities.
The five-bedroom townhouse has a first floor open plan lounge and dining area, plus a high specification kitchen. The ground floor could be the setting for a fifth bedroom. Or, alternatively, it could house a games or family room.
The apartments are expected to win interest from downsizers.
Various types of apartment feature at Williamwood, but all carry a high specification .
Applecross say buyers who sign up early in the construction process will have a choice of designer kitchens.
Other practical aspects include compact radiators with individual thermostatic controls and there are well designed storage facilities.
Garages or allocated parking spaces are another feature.
With the first residents scheduled to move in around the end of the year, prices for the apartments at Williamwood start at £225,000 with the townhouses priced from £405,000 for the four-bedroom versions, with the five-bedroom ownhouses on offer at £490,000.
Craig Hall, marketing director with Applecross, commented:
"Williamwood is an innovative and contemporary development which showcases the boutique style of homes that Applecross is renowned for.
"It's such a beautiful location; we're looking forward to welcoming people on site to discuss their plans.
"We really appreciate the issues facing those wishing to move and have a range of services to help."
